The Sound of Wisdom

We live in a time where information is everywhere but wisdom feels scarce. The book of Proverbs reminds us that wisdom isn’t just intellectual; it’s spiritual and foundational to a life of godliness. In this message from Pastor Léveillé, drawn from Proverbs 1, we are invited to reflect deeply on the urgency of pursuing wisdom, listening to wise counsel, and heeding the voice of God before it’s too late. This is more than a call to live smart, it’s a call to live in alignment with the heart of God.

Pursue Godly Wisdom First (Verses 1–7)

The opening verses of Proverbs set the tone for the entire book. Wisdom is not simply knowledge it’s applied truth, anchored in the fear of the Lord. Pastor Léveillé emphasized that the fear of the Lord is not a paralyzing terror but a reverent awe and love for God that shapes how we live. Many people today seek knowledge but disregard the source of wisdom. We chase careers, education, and success but forget to ask: Are we growing in wisdom?

Proverbs tells us that the wise will listen and increase in learning. This requires humility a willingness to admit that we don’t know everything and that God’s voice must be the first we seek. Pastor challenged us to be people who don’t just hear the Word, but who hunger for it, letting it shape our worldview and decisions. Godly wisdom isn’t hidden from us, but it does require that we prioritize it above worldly gain. As verse 7 makes clear, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

Partake in Wise Counsel (Verses 9–19)

In verses 9 through 19, Solomon warns against the pull of peer pressure and ungodly counsel. Pastor Léveillé highlighted how easy it is to get swept up in what seems enticing. Sin often presents itself as exciting or lucrative “Let’s all throw in together and share the loot,” the voice of folly says. But wisdom tells us otherwise.

We must be discerning about the voices we allow to influence us. Who are we walking with? What are we allowing into our minds and hearts? These questions are critical because bad company corrupts good character. Pastor pointed out that the path of wickedness often begins subtly: a small compromise here, a rationalization there. But the end is destruction. Sin is a trap that ensnares the very people who set it.

This section of the sermon called us to guard our hearts and intentionally surround ourselves with godly counsel. Wisdom is often found in the multitude of wise advisors, and God places people in our lives: pastors, mentors, spiritual friends. not just for comfort but for correction and direction.

Pay Heed to Wisdom’s Call (Verses 20–33)

Perhaps the most sobering part of Proverbs 1 is the closing section, where wisdom is personified as a woman crying out in the streets, pleading with people to listen. Pastor Léveillé urged us not to ignore this voice. God is speaking, and He’s doing so not in secret but publicly, persistently, and passionately. Yet many turn a deaf ear.

The danger isn’t just ignorance it’s willful rejection. There comes a point, Pastor warned, where if we continually resist wisdom, we’ll suffer the consequences of that choice. “They hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord,” the passage says. The result is ruin, panic, and calamity.

But for those who do listen, there’s a promise: “Whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.” Wisdom offers peace, protection, and purpose. The call of wisdom is not just a call to knowledge—it’s a call to repentance, to realignment, to trust in God’s way over our own.

Conclusion

Proverbs 1 is not just ancient poetry—it’s a living call to modern people. Pastor Léveillé’s message reminded us that wisdom isn’t automatic. It must be pursued, treasured, and obeyed. If we listen now, we’ll avoid regret later. If we seek wisdom early, we’ll be safeguarded in the storms of life. But the time to listen is now.

Will you heed the sound of wisdom?
